Assessment An accurate assessment is an absolutely critical first step in creating an effective, personalized plan of intervention. Initially, a good assessment provides information of vital importance about an individual’s level of developmental and academic maturation. Periodic assessments, formal and informal, may be used to monitor progress. Without a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, any plan devised would only be a guess as to what action should be taken. One-on-one Intervention One-on-one academic intervention is the heart and soul of educational therapy. Educational therapy is not tutoring. As Iconix instructors, we understand and base our instruction on the hierarchical development of visual thought — first learning to see and then seeing to learn. Aligning instruction with developmental hierarchies yields better outcomes. Each intervention plan is carefully crafted to address each student’s specific constellation of needs.
